Griffin

The Griffin pub is a popular pub restaurant in historic Caversham on the outskirts of Reading. Built in 1916 on the north bank of the River Thames close to Caversham Bridge, this friendly inn is the ideal lunch location for those enjoying a walk on the Thames Path National Trail or a cruise on the river. Pilgrims, merchants and even armies have crossed the Thames at Caversham Bridge for centuries, and there has been a tavern on the site of The Griffin since at least the 1800?s. Rebuilt to meet the needs of modern travellers in 1916, the Griffin is perfectly located for Thames travellers and Reading residents alike. Sometimes you know just what you want; great pub food cooked with care. Whether it's hand-battered cod & chips, the gourmet burger, or the ever-popular Brewer's Chicken, now is the time to rediscover your old favourites. Make sure you try our traditional Sunday roasts with a huge a Yorkshire pudding and unlimited gravy. The food at the Griffin is rooted in traditional British cuisine and the chefs showcase a modern flair with the dishes they produce. The Griffin pub is strategically located on the north bank of the River Thames, close to Caversham Bridge in the historic town of Caversham, incorporated into Reading Borough as recently as 1911. It stands on the outskirts of town, separated from the rest of Reading by the River Thames with access via the Caversham Bridge, a Thames crossing point for over a thousand years. Historically an important ferry crossing, Henry III ordered an oak tree to be sent to the area in 1231 to make a ferry boat.
